Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, the Prime Ministerial candidate representing the National People’s Power (NPP) in the 2024 general election, has achieved a historic milestone by securing over 655,289 preferential votes in the Colombo district. This makes her the top candidate in the district and sets a new record for the highest number of preferential votes ever received by a single parliamentary candidate in Sri Lankan election history.
The previous record-holder was former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, who garnered 527,364 preferential votes in the Kurunegala district during the 2020 general election.
