Deshabandu Requests Protection Amid Death Threats

Former Sri Lankan police chief Deshabandu Tennakoon has formally requested police protection, citing serious threats to his life.

According to official sources, Tennakoon submitted a written request to Acting Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasuriya on May 1. He expressed grave concern over the complete withdrawal of his personal security, warning that it leaves him highly vulnerable.

Police officials confirmed that a threat assessment will be conducted to determine the credibility and severity of the reported risks. Should the evaluation confirm a genuine threat, appropriate security measures will be reinstated.
