Sri Lanka is set to recognize the right to access healthcare as a fundamental right in its new Constitution, according to Minister Nalinda Jayathissa. This move will allow citizens to seek legal recourse if their healthcare rights are violated, marking a significant step towards strengthening social welfare in the country.
The announcement was made at the annual social welfare event organized by the All-Island Kidney Patients’ Association in Colombo. The event, held at the Mahaweli Centre, was attended by prominent figures, including the association’s chief patron, Dr. Sanjaya Heyyanthuduwa, Professor Mandika Wijeratne, and other dignitaries.
Key highlights included the launch of the association’s updated website, the distribution of gifts to children living with kidney ailments, and the release of the 29th edition of its Kidney-related news magazine, along with the association’s annual calendar.
