In the largest drug bust in the history of Sri Lanka’s Katunayake International Airport, officers from the Customs Narcotics Control Division have arrested a Canadian woman in possession of hashish worth Rs. 36 million.
The 36-year-old suspect, reportedly a heavy drug user, was detained upon her arrival at the airport on Thursday (15). According to initial investigations, she had traveled from Toronto, Canada, with a transit stop in Abu Dhabi before landing in Sri Lanka at 8:30 PM on Etihad Airways flight EY-936.
Authorities have transferred the suspect and the seized drugs to the Katunayake Airport Police Narcotics Bureau for further investigation.
