Actor David Schwimmer has called on Elon Musk to ban Kanye West from X following the rapper’s continued spread of antisemitic content. Schwimmer, best known for his role in Friends and his advocacy against antisemitism, took to Instagram to express his concerns about West’s rhetoric and its potential impact.
West, who has more than 32 million followers on the platform, has been posting content that includes praise for Adolf Hitler, endorsements of Nazi ideology, and the promotion of hate symbols such as the swastika. His remarks have sparked widespread condemnation.
The controversy follows an incident at the Grammy Awards, where West’s wife, Bianca Censori, caused a stir by wearing a transparent dress that fully revealed her body. In the aftermath, West escalated his social media activity, making inflammatory remarks that targeted marginalized communities and amplified debunked conspiracy theories.
Schwimmer addressed Musk directly in his post, stating, “We can’t stop a deranged bigot from spewing hate-filled, ignorant bile… but we CAN stop giving him a megaphone, Mr. Musk.” He highlighted the dangers of West’s influence, noting that the rapper’s reach on X is more than double the global Jewish population.
“Kanye West has 32.7 million followers on your platform, X. That’s twice as many people as the number of Jews in existence. His sick hate speech results in REAL LIFE violence against Jews,” Schwimmer warned.
West has faced repeated criticism and bans from social media platforms in the past for similar rhetoric. It remains to be seen how Musk will respond to the latest calls for action.
