Reports suggest that a significant number of former Presidents and former Cabinet Ministers have decided not to contest in the upcoming General Election.
Notably, former Presidents Mahinda Rajapaksa, Maithripala Sirisena, and Ranil Wickremesinghe, who have represented the country’s parliament for decades, have chosen to withdraw from the race.
In addition, prominent politicians such as Shehan Semasinghe, Bandula Gunawardena, Wimal Weerawansa, and Patali Champika Ranawaka have also decided not to contest this time.
It has also been reported that S.B. Dissanayake, Vimal Weerasinghe, Shan Wijayalal De Silva, Sahan Pradeep, W.D.J. Seneviratne, C.V. Wigneswaran, Vasudeva Nanayakkara, Janaka Bandara Tennakoon, Major Pradeep Undugoda, Priyankara Jayaratne, Nasheer Ahmed, Sampath Athukorala, Gevidu Kumaratunga, and Sudath Manjula have decided not to contest in this year’s General Election.
