El Salvador is set to develop its first nuclear research reactor by 2030, marking a key move in its energy transition. During a recent OLADE webinar, David Alvarezc, Director General of Energy, Hydrocarbons, and Mines, highlighted nuclear energy’s role in addressing challenges like droughts and fluctuating oil prices.
The initiative aims to stabilize electricity costs, benefiting industries and tourism. The government plans to train 400 specialists over seven years to support this emerging sector. Collaboration with Argentina, Brazil, and Mexico has been essential to advancing nuclear research in the region.
Nuclear energy offers El Salvador a stable, economical path to clean energy, ensuring a more sustainable future.
