China and Vietnam Reaffirm Commitment to Strengthening Bilateral Ties

In a meeting held at the Great Hall of the People, President Xi Jinping of China and Luong Cuong, a senior official from Vietnam’s Communist Party, reaffirmed their countries’ commitment to deepening bilateral ties and strengthening political cooperation.

Xi, who also serves as general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC), emphasized the shared leadership of the communist party and socialist governance as key pillars of the relationship between China and Vietnam. He highlighted that these shared values form a solid political foundation for the long-term development of their bilateral relations.

During the meeting, Xi stressed that China regards Vietnam as a priority in its neighborhood diplomacy and expressed Beijing’s readiness to collaborate closely with Hanoi. He outlined a vision of furthering high-level cooperation, advocating for international justice, and working together to promote global progress. Xi urged both nations to continue steering their relationship in the right direction from a strategic perspective, especially in light of rapid global changes.

The meeting between Xi and Cuong comes as the two countries prepare to celebrate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties next year, designated as the “China-Vietnam Year of People-to-People Exchanges.” Xi encouraged the two nations to seize this opportunity to deepen people-to-people friendships and reinforce public support for stronger bilateral relations.

Cuong, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee and permanent member of the CPV Central Committee Secretariat, conveyed Vietnam’s deep appreciation for China’s support during its national liberation and socialist construction. He reiterated Vietnam’s strategic commitment to strengthening ties with China, describing it as a top priority in the country’s overall foreign policy.

Cuong also expressed Vietnam’s intention to expand cooperation in various fields and work with China to manage and resolve differences effectively.

The meeting is part of a series of high-level exchanges between the two countries, underscoring the robust momentum in China-Vietnam relations. Earlier this year, China was the first foreign destination for CPV General Secretary To Lam following his appointment. Additionally, Chinese Premier Li Qiang is scheduled to visit Vietnam as part of his official tour of East Asia, further cementing ties between the two nations.
